Few issues are as critical as energy policy. We can solve our own energy needs and decrease our dependence on foreign oil. Kansas has an abundance of energy resources. We must aggressively harness the energy of tomorrow while using today’s technology.
Certain components are vital to a healthy and sustainable energy policy for Kansas:
- Security: Our energy supply should be more than adequate to meet increasing demands and must be kept safe from terrorists.
- Diversity: Fossil fuels, nuclear, clean coal, hydrogen, wind, solar, biomass, fuel cell, and other options should all play a part in our state’s energy portfolio while aggressively promoting conservation.
- Free Market Policies: State policies must allow free and competitive markets regarding pricing, technology deployment, selection of fuels and suppliers.
Kansas is in a position to become a major energy exporter. We must become a state that embraces free market policies without mandates that are arbitrary and politically driven, while ensuring that the regulatory process is fair and predictable.
